چکیده

Introduction Disturbance of blood flow and intraneural edema due to mechanical compression by the surrounding tissues appear to be closely involved in the appearance of neurological symptoms when entrapment neuropathy affects the peripheral nerves. In generally, the peripheral nerve has the perineurium as a diffusion barrier and the blood-nerve barrier is also existing in the endothelial cells of the endoneurial microvessels. These barriers of the peripheral nerve protect and maintain the nerve fibers in a constant environment. (5) We studied the integrity of the blood-nerve barrier in peripheral nerves by using clips to compress the dorsal root ganglion containing the primary sensory neurons, the spinal nerve root through which the central branches of these neurons pass, and the peripheral nerve trunk through which the peripheral branches run.

Morphological Identification of Cell Death in Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons Following Peripheral Nerve injury and repair in adult rat

Background: Axotomy causes sensory neuronal loss. Reconnection of proximal and distal nerve ends by surgical repair improves neuronal survival. It is important to know the morphology of primary sensory neurons after the surgical repair of their peripheral processes. Methods: Animals (male Wistar rats) were exposed to models of sciatic nerve transection, direct epineurial suture repair of sciati...

Anatomical Variations of Brachial Plexus in Adult Cadavers; A Descriptive Study

Background: Variations of the brachial plexus are common and a better awareness of the variations is of crucial importance to achieve successful results in its surgical procedures. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the anatomical variations of the brachial plexus in adult cadavers.   Methods: Bilateral upper limbs of 32 fresh cadavers (21 males and 11 females) consecutively referre...

بررسی آسیب ریشه‌های عصبی گردن و درگیری اعصاب محیطی اندام فوقانی در کشتی‌گیران حرفه‌ای ایران

Wresting is one of the most involve sports in sport injuries. Because of Increasing number of wrestlers in Iran as the native sports, and lack of a precise study about the cervical root lesion and associated peripheral nerve lesion, we decided to study prevalence, type, involved root of probable cervical radiculopathy and also associated predisposing factor in 40 wrestlers, age range of 36-63 ...

Permeability of injured and intact peripheral nerves and dorsal root ganglia.

BACKGROUND Nerve injury that produces behavioral changes of allodynia and hyperalgesia in animals is associated with electrophysiologic changes in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells. The introduction of drugs into the DRG or the peripheral nerve that alter calcium, sodium, or potassium channel activity may be of therapeutic benefit after nerve injury. For this reason, the authors sought to determ...

Pathology of lumbar nerve root compression. Part 1: Intraradicular inflammatory changes induced by mechanical compression.

STUDY DESIGN This study is to investigate the intraradicular inflammation induced by mechanical compression using in vivo model. OBJECTIVES The relationship between the intraradicular edema and nerve fiber degeneration induced by mechanical compression was determined in the nerve root. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Recently some studies reported that mechanical compression increased microvascu...
